Shawnay Freeman Week 8 Blog Assignment 1

This weeks Literature Review was difficult to me, but every paper I write is kind of intimidating to me. I am not the type who can sit down and stuff just starts coming to me and I am writing for hours. It really takes some brain storming for me to get the concept of what I am writing but overall I made it through and really enjoyed this class and learned a lot about researching and different search engines I can search from. A literature review to me is not writing a report, so I had to figure out how I was going to write my paper without summarizing. I hope it was done correctly but if it wasn't this was a lesson learned and next time it will be better. In doing this research and literature review this has taught me and showed me how to do research through different websites and search engines. It has showed me how to search and where to go when searching for more information. My understanding of my topic of ADHD has made me be more open minded to children who have this disorder and as I said in the beginning this really hit close to home and showed me that children who suffer from this disorder are struggling to control their behavior and ways in a school setting/or everyday life, and I believe it is not their fault. This makes me want to help and do more research to see if we can find a cure for this disorder or should I say is there a cure? I do believe there are many questions unanswered about this disorder mainly " Is there a cure for this disorder? and " Can this disorder be controlled?

Week 7 Blog Post

Week 7 was kind of hard getting all of the annotated research together and also being sick with high blood pressure. I feel a lot better but I still feel a little dizzy in the head but God will see me through. During this weeks research I just went to journal finder and found some information on my research topic which is " Should psycological Assessments be done on preschool children with Attention-Deficit/Hperactivity disorder" I really am just snow understanding what we were suppose to do with this assignment. So next time I do this assignment I will have everything on part. I did a lot more research trying to find out my hypothesis. This is my research I did . I went to journal finder put in Psycological Assessments on preschool children with ADHD. I did not find anything so I click on education and then psychology and find some more articles on my research question. here is the path I took to do my six annotated assignments

Should Psychological Assessments be done on preschool children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity disorder"

Schickendanz, Judith, Karen, Hansen, David, Schickedanz, David, Peggy, Forsyth ( 1993). Understanding Children: Mayfield Publishing Company

In the book " Understanding Children" this book explains about how a child's mind works. It also shows how the neurons inside a child's brain makes the child react in certain ways or manners. It gives examples of how  to handle certain disciplinary instances with children. The book also explains how to handles situations you will come across with children with different disorders. The book also talks about the different assessments children go through and the process it takes. I believe certain topics in this paper will be relevant to my topic and will help me better understand the different assessments children go through , throughout their lives. The information will also help me understand the physical, cognitive, language development in preschool children throughout their school age.

Harvey. A. Elizabeth, Sara D. Youngwirth, Dhara A. Thackar, and Paula A. Errazuriz (2009) Predicting Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder and Oppositional Defiant Disorder from Preschool Diagnostic Assessments.

In this article it explains how help children with this disorder and how studies show that assessing preschool children since their early life helps better treat attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in children. The article also talks about children who have it and how it helps them to better cope with the disorder. The article also talks about a studies that were done on 168 children  of preschool age between 3 & 4 yrs old and how this study better helped the children  greatly in different strategies and methods. I highly recommend these type of studies to be done on preschool children so that the educators can better understand the assessment process of helping the children and children can learn how to cope with this disorder in school.

Wilcutt, Erik E, Cynthia, Hatung, Benjaminm Lahey, Jan, Loney, William, Pelham. " Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology. Vol. 27, no. 6 (1999): 463-472 " Utility of Behavior Ratings by Examiners during Assessments of Preschool Children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder"

In this article it talks about non clinicians examiners who assess preschool children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) This articles focus is on non clinicians  doing testing on children who suffer from ADHD in their preschool years. I feel this article will help me get a better understanding of the article because it gives me data on children who have ADHD and  which children who have ADHD and children who do not have ADHD. It also gives me a better understanding of the differences in functionality of kids with and without the disorder. I believe the article enhances my research by analyzing other aspects of the children's behavior, functions and reactions. It gives ratings of clinic behavior and the article taps in to factors that I never thought of while assessing children who have ADHD and who do not have ADHD. The article shows great detail and examples on why a child with ADHD behavior is the way it is and it compares the children who do not have the ADHD to those who do.

Deans, Pamela, Liz O'Laughlin, Brad Brubaker, Nathan Gay, Damon Krug " Psychology Department, Indiana State Universtity. (2010): 238-246 "  Use of Eye Movement Tracking in the Differential Diagnosis of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Reading Disability."

In this article psychological assessments have been practiced on numerous occasions all throughout history. This practice helps to monitor kids that are not functioning as properly as the typical kids normally would. In this article it states how ADHD is one of the most common disorders in children, so I can understand why this is important to the assessment process.I however  do think that their methods of assessing these children should be limited. I feel this testing could make the child feel out of place and less of a person and different. This article explains how kids with ADHD function and how it affects their daily lives but I feel that these assessments should be allowed but not taken to the extreme.

Vista Heath Services Inc (2009). Psychological Assessments. Available from  www.psychological assessments.org

This article is very relevant and helpful for this specific services because it explains the different ways the brain works  and what those functions do. The article also involves the reader in the way the brain works by using words like "you" or " we" to make it seem directed to you . The article  also uses many references to psychologist and very sophisticated words to establish ethos which is credibility with the readers. The article gets to its purpose by explaining why it talks about certain psychological factors and explains what to look for when you see these factors at play and this is why this articles I believe is helpful. I would recommend this article to be read because the brain is like a sponge and with further testing we could find out different disorders in children and how to assess them in a child's school age.

Eric Clearing house (2010). Assessments for young Children. Available from www.idonline.org

This article is very knowledgeable and helpful because it tells you how a child is being assessed and the different assessment methods they have while assessing children in school. This article was posted in 2010 and is helpful and explains how a child is assessed at the elementary and secondary school level. It talks about formal and informal assessments that are done on children. I believe this is a good way to find out if a child has some type of disorder. I would recommend testing be done on all children especially preschool children. I believe if we can determine at a early age this will help the child when they are in school age.

Mittermeir T. Rooland (2013) Algorithmics for Preschoolers-A Contradiction

This article is about preschoolers being in their early days in life and their brains absorbing knowledge that is brought to them in the world or at a early age. This is contradicted by ADHD because it distracts children from paying attention and fully understanding what is to be learned because of the many things that go on inside the child's brain. In this article it explains how algorithms are a complicated concept and need to be top using colloquial language. It shows that dealing with ADHD children , the method  of teaching has to be in a child like setting to keep the child interested long enough to learn. In this article  a study is done on 3 to 6 year old and because it was done in a kid friendly environment they got good results. I believe this is a good article and it could also help in finding out a better way to assess children who suffer with this disorder and may make it easier for them in school and easier for the teachers as well.

Overall this week was okay but a little difficut Shawnay Freeman

Shawnay freeman Week 6 Assignment 2

Hello the weeks are just flying by:) I hope everyone has enjoyed this class as much as I have. Well in the beginning it was a struggle at least that's what I thought it was going to be but I survived:) This weeks research was pretty easy and I was very comfortable this week. I believe this weeks lecture about plagiarism, student conduct, and academic integrity was very beneficial and will benefit me better in the future, with future papers. It will also help me to write my papers in my own words and to give recognition to others I quote from. To me, cheating is never an option. I believe when you cheat you cheat your self and you are not benefiting in the end. I believe in doing research in this class has prepared me for other classes who require researching. When I first started this class I was nervous and very skeptical of the work that was required.  This is my first time taking a class were you have to research different search engines. The only search engine I am familiar with is Google. Blogging oh my god that was scary just hearing I have to blog. I am know more comfortable with researching and blogging. Doing my research search this week was pretty easy and I was very comfortable with looking up articles that were published in Open Access Journals. When going to http;//oajse.com this website was simple took me straight to article on my topic. There were a lot more then I thought but I skimmed through the articles and found an article about "Associative learning in ADHD expression under methylphenidate." This article gave me more insist on children who are diagnosed with ADHD and different studies that are done on these children. When trying to research the other website www.doaj.org this site was not so user friendly. This site required a user name and password. So I just stuck with www.oajse.com. This researching is getting more and more comfortable as the week pass. This is a very informative class.
